Our first Falls History DVD
In Their Own Words - Oral Histories of pulp and papermaking in West Linn, Oregon
This spellbinding, authentic oral history of pulp and papermaking, told by the people who lived it, paints a moving picture of work in Oregon heavy industry in the mid-twentieth century, from sorting snow-covered logs on the wide Willamette River to tending the giant machines that produced paper for America’s favorite magazines of the day, using upriver forests and the power of mighty Willamette Falls.
The Crown Zee symbol dominated the west coast market in household paper products, making paper towels, business staples like cash register tape, Crezon backing paper for construction, thousands of tons of newsprint and telephone directory stock, and mulch paper for Hawaiian planters.
In this first two-hour release of their stories, seventeen people hired by Crown Zee between 1927 and 1986 share memories that are alternatively grim, funny and touching. The end product is a moving chronicle of the heavy, honest work that built the middle class and educated generations of children in the surrounds communities near the falls.
Look back with them at a working environment before safety committees, environmental consciousness, and equal rights. Join us as we learn how paper was made, and as we honor these people and their work with this wonderful, fast-paced documentary.
