Lock Fest is totally run by volunteers. The success of Lock Fest depends on the community involvement to make it happen. We have a variety of ways to help, from assisting with setup the Friday evening before Lock Fest, to many jobs during Lock Fest, including parking guides, greeters, cleanup. Several shifts during the day can be selected. If you would like to help with Lock Fest, please click on the link for the Volunteer Application Form. Your help is greatly appreciated! There are many ways to get in on the excitement of Lock Fest 2008. Volunteering is one way to help out and have fun.
Directional Guides Main duties: Work in pairs, on shift, at assigned location (with a chair), directing entering visitors to the main entrance from the upper parking areas. Work with the volunteer Captain on other ‘guiding’ tasks during the day, like pointing folks to restrooms, tour booth, etc.
Greeters Main Duties: Answer questions about activities, point the way to locks, food, restrooms, tour booth, heritage exhibits, Lock Museum, etc. Very important “Public Face”--Friendly, helpful, attentive to customers.
Retail Sales Main duties: Work a shift in the Lock Fest Store. Answer questions about pricing and merchandise (T-shirts, CDs, posters, pins, booklets). Orient the next shift. Working with a friend or family member is suggested, in case it’s too busy for one person.
Tour Registration Main Duties: Sit in the Tour Booth for a two-hour shift, supervising sign-ups on a clip board for tour times throughout the day. First shift starts at 8 due to popularity of tours and first-come-first-served process. Work with Mill Guides to be sure people who sign up are 16 or older, have appropriate footwear, leave their backpacks. 8-10:30, 10:30-noon, noon-3:00.
Litter Patrol Main Duties: Spot and dispose correctly of litter in the park throughout the day Saturday, from 7:30 am to 4 pm. Recycling containers and garbage cans will be available in the park. Work with food vendors so that refuse doesn’t overflow cans. There is usually not much litter, so pitch in where needed by Volunteer Captain.
Booth Set-up Main Duties: On Friday after 5 pm help with arrangement and set-up of all exhibits, as needed, particularly canopies delivered into park off the truck. Follow festival booth map. Pitch in where needed. Set up tables and chairs in booths. Move bleachers into place. Set up stage. Deploy extension cords.
Booth Take-down Main Duties: Reverse of set-up. Disassemble any booths that the Lock Fest rented or borrowed. Working around exhibitors, pack up canopies and sort as to where they need to be returned to. Most exhibitors will do their own thing, but Lock Fest Store, WFHF Heritage Booth, and City canopy will need to be taken down by us. Also help with Lions booth/equipment, if needed. This job requires some physical strength in hands/arms/back, familiarity with canopies, ability to lift 60 pounds safely. Help load rented canopies/extension cords/tables back onto the truck. Pitch in where needed.
Clean-up: Do last patrol of the festival areas, policing for any missed litter or abandoned equipment. 4-7 p.m. Saturday. Work with Clackamas County Recycling Program to help remove recycling containers.
